Training and Expectations 2015/16

Here we go then. In this post I’ll be letting you all know when and where we will be training this year, and what Romit and I expect from people looking to play for the outdoor first and second team. Read everything as it all may apply to you!

To start, below is a list of the training sessions we plan to have each week:

  • Sand Pitch 1: Monday 20:30 – 22:00 (First Team)
  • Main Hall: Wednesday 07:00 – 09:00 (Experienced)
  • Varsity: Wednesday 12:00 – 14:00 (Experienced)
  • Sand Pitch 1: Thursday 19:30 – 21:30 (Experienced)
  • Track Fitness: Friday 19:00 – 20:30 (Everyone)
  • Varsity: Saturday 12:00 – 14:00 (Experienced)

The first thing you’ll notice is that the Monday session is only open to people in the first team training group, apart from this coming Monday (05/10/15) were it is open to everyone in the experienced group. I want to make it clear now that just because someone isn’t in the first team training group now, that doesn’t mean that they can’t move up. These training sessions are all about progression, if you show us you’ve progressed enough then you will be moved up.

Expectations

First team squad:

  • Must attend at least 4 fitness sessions a term
  • Must attend 2 experienced sessions a week
  • Do 1-2 hours of throwing outside of training

When considering the training sessions; for this group the Monday session is your most important. If you can only make two session that week then ensure that the Monday session is one of them. Also Wednesday indoors does not count as one of these sessions. To really make the most of your throwing it would be ideal to follow Kung Fu or Zen throwing routines.

Experienced players:

  • Must attend at least 2 fitness sessions a term
  • Must attend 1 experienced sessions a week
  • Do 1-2 hours of throwing outside of training

Same rules apply here; Wednesday indoors does not count as one of our experienced sessions, and using a more structured routine for some of your throwing will be greatly beneficial to your progress as an Ultimate player.

These expectations doesn’t mean that it’s OK to just fill your ‘quota’ for that week and then stop coming to other sessions as this is the minimum effort we are looking for from you all. For further motivation, if you do attend more than expected just imagine how many green boxes you’ll have on the spreadsheet!

That’s it from me then. Make sure you realize what we want from you this year as there is a real chance that if we all put the effort in, we will crush other teams and secure ourselves a spot at nationals!
