Good chemistry and great individual performances ensure Bears 1 will be representing Warwick at Women’s Indoor Nationals this year.
The Bears 1 team were seeded 4th at the start of the tournament, being put in a tough group of which 3 teams went on to top 6 finishes. The result was some tight games, including beating Swansea on universe point, but they couldn’t top the pool due to a loss to Bangor.
Without the crossover bye, Warwick 1 comfortably beat UBU 2 to finish the day in 6th seed, and guarantee a top 8 finish.
Meanwhile, Warwick 2, a team almost entirely composed of freshers, sadly lost all of their Saturday games, but managed to score 2 points against tough opposition.
They finished Saturday in 21st seed.
Day 2 did not start perfectly for Warwick 1, losing to Bath 1 8-2, but recorded the first points against the eventual winners. The loss meant every game was must-win to secure a spot at nationals.
After grinding out wins against Cardiff 1 and Swansea 1, Bears 1 were setup for a crucial game against Plymouth 1, with the winners taking the forth seed and taking the last spot to nationals. The women powered on, cheered on the the horde of travelling support armed with kazoos, to take the game 7-3 and confirm their trip to Glasgow.
In the other half of the table, Bears 2 lost 10-0 to Cardiff 2, setting up a rematch against Coventry 1 for 21st place.
The result was a tight game, with Bears 2 edging it 5-4 to win their final game of the tournament.
